How much does a private guide in Prague cost? Market ranges explained

One of the questions we hear most often is what a private guide in Prague costs. We do not publish fixed prices, because every group and route is different, but the market is quite transparent: many independent guides, local agencies and tour marketplaces publish their rates. This guide summarises what we found in September 2026, so you know what a fair offer looks like.

Prices are per group, usually for up to six to ten people, and do not include entrance tickets. At the exchange rate of September 2026, 1,000 CZK is about 41 EUR or 47 USD. Independent guides who charge by the hour mostly publish rates between about 950 and 2,000 CZK per hour for the group, often with a minimum of two or three hours.

These ranges come from the published price lists of independent guides, local agencies, the city's own tourism organisation and international tour marketplaces, checked in September 2026. Individual offers can be higher or lower.

What changes the price

• Length. Most guides charge by the hour with a minimum, so a six-hour day costs roughly twice a three-hour walk.
• Group size. Many price lists use bands such as one or two people, three to five and six to ten. Large groups need several guides.
• Language. English is the easiest to book. Other languages depend on the availability of licensed guides and need earlier booking.
• Season. Some guides add a surcharge around Easter, during the May holidays and at Christmas.
• Car and driver. A guide with a private car costs more, but it covers more ground in less time and suits seniors, families and hot days.
• Specialisation. Guides for architecture, art history, Jewish heritage or twentieth-century history, and senior guides for VIP visits, are usually at the top of the range.

What is usually not included

• Entrance tickets for the castle, museums and synagogues.
• Public transport, taxis or a car, unless the tour includes one.
• Meals, drinks and tastings.
• Tips, which are welcome but never required.

How to compare quotes

1. Check the licence. Since 2021, anyone guiding for pay in the Czech Republic must hold the Czech National Guide Card and wear it visibly while guiding.
2. Compare like with like. The same length, the same group size and the same inclusions.
3. Ask what is included. Tickets, pick-up at the hotel, transport between sights, a boat or a lunch.
4. Read the cancellation terms. When you can cancel for free, and what happens in bad weather.
5. Ask who your guide will be. A name, languages and experience with groups like yours.

Private guide or group tour?

For one or two people on a budget, a scheduled group walking tour is the cheapest way to see the centre. For families and groups of friends, a private guide often costs only a little more per person and adapts the route, the pace and the stories to you. For seniors, VIP guests and special interests, a private guide is usually the better choice.
