Prague fireworks rules: year-round ban in the centre, New Year's Eve included

Prague has new fireworks rules. City decree No. 12/2026, approved by the Prague City Assembly on 19 June 2026 and in force since 8 July 2026, bans setting off fireworks of category F2 and higher all year, without exception, in 20 city districts. They include Prague 1, the historic centre, and the neighbouring districts Prague 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The ban also applies on New Year's Eve 2026 and New Year's Day 2027.

What it means for your trip

• In the centre, leave fireworks at home. The ban there applies every day of the year.
• Elsewhere in Prague, private fireworks are allowed only from 17:00 on 31 December 2026 to 02:00 on 1 January 2027: nine hours instead of the previous 48.
• Sky lanterns remain banned.
• Fines for breaking the decree can reach 100,000 CZK.
• Professional displays by specialist companies are not covered by the decree.
