About Karlštejn Castle
Karlštejn looks exactly like a castle should: towers stacked above a forested valley, reached by a winding path from a small village. Emperor Charles IV founded it in 1348 as a treasury for the imperial crown jewels and holy relics, and much of what you see follows the Gothic design of his time.
An easy half day
It is the closest major castle to Prague, which makes it the natural choice for a first trip out of the city or for families with younger children. You can leave after breakfast and be back for a late lunch.
